It is noteworthy that a fresh round of applications for the Youth Employment and Skills Program (YESP) will be opened with an allocation of roughly $13.5 million from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC). This is a great opportunity for taking advantage of.

The agriculture sector has been suffering because of skilled labour shortage and by creating about 1,200 jobs for young people in the agriculture sector, this project is aimed to give the sector much-needed support.

Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of AAFC, highlights the importance of giving young people the chance to acquire the expertise required for a lucrative and successful career in agriculture. He exhorts young people and employers to take full advantage of this program and all of the benefits it offers.

Employers in the agricultural sector who hire youth from Canada are eligible to receive YESP funding equal to 50% of earnings, up to a maximum of $14,000. Employers who recruit young people who are suffering barriers to work may also be eligible for 80 percent of salary and benefit costs, up to a maximum of $14,000, with an additional $5,000 available to address particular challenges.

Support is provided by the program to a wide range of workers, including: Indigenous people; youth with disabilities (physical, mental health, or learning); youth who have been racialized; recent immigrants to Canada (within the last five years); single parents; people from low-income households; high school dropouts; people who live in remote, northern, or fly-in communities; people who are part of official Language Minority Communities; and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people.

Companies are encouraged to apply for consideration between February 26, 2024, and March 25, 2024. Online at the Youth Employment and Skills Program webpage are application forms for the YESP.
